Finnish Jolla presented the first smartphone based on Sailfish OS

Finnish startup Jolla, created by the former management of Nokia, today announced its first smartphone that runs on the basis of its proprietary operating system Sailfish OS and has a 4.5-inch touch screen. Recall that the company Jolla bases its development on the basis of the operating system MeeGo, which was previously used by Nokia, but has been replaced by Windows Phone.

The new development Jolla got the same name, and is represented by the smartphone version has support for LTE, is powered by a dual-core processor and has an 8-megapixel camera. The interior of the smart phone is limited to 16 gigabytes, but can be expanded to include support for memory cards SD. In addition, the smart phone supports removable color panels, through which you can personalize the appearance of the device.


However, in this unit, it is important not only hardware, but also its proprietary operating system Sailfish, which will compete with other modern smartphone operating system. To strengthen the presence of the application software on the Sailfish, this OS has limited support for Android-programs.

According to the announcement of the company, the new smartphone will be available in the fourth quarter of this year and will cost 400 euros. Pre-order the device is opened on the site Jolla.

Francisco Jeronimo, research director at IDC, said that the smartphone market is now becoming more extensive and soon there will be solutions based on the Firefox OS, Ubuntu and Tizen, why Jolla really is not too much of a chance of survival without massive support the company's investors will have to make some completely non-standard steps to boost sales.
